Kevin de Bruyne (3.5)
One of the best players in the world put on a surprisingly bad performance. He stalled less than Hazard to be found between the lines. Hit two or three times, he accelerated but lacked inspiration in his passes. As the game went on, he rushed into his openings for Batshuayi. His end of the match is even more muddled. Annoyed.
Richie Laryea (7)
There’s the unstoppable Davies on the left and the incisive Laryea on the right. Canada’s right-hander, who plays for Toronto FC, made plenty of differences on his wing, providing several big chances in the first half. A huge defensive return to counter Batshuayi (67th).
Thibaut Courtois (7)
The Belgian goalkeeper saved his entry team by repelling a penalty from Davies (11th) and he secured the blow a few times, such as on a strike from Laryea (30th). Excluded: Belgium can go far with Courtois alone.
Toby Alderweireld (6)
In the center of the defense at 3, the 33-year-old right-hander was responsible for sending long balls for Castagne on the right wing. It was finally one of his openings for Batshuayi which unblocked the situation (44th). Defensively, not really worried in his area, he cleared many balloons.
Michy Batshuayi (5,5)
The number 9 of Belgium did not complete the first opportunity for his team (23rd), before opening the scoring with a huge shot from the left (44th), which will give him confidence for the future. And again… In the second half, he was too messy with the ball and not insightful enough in his calls. Not really a great performance…
Alphonso Davies (5,5)
He unfortunately missed a penalty early in the game (11th), which would have made him the first Canadian scorer in the World Cup. The Bayern player got back on the road and tried tirelessly to make a difference with his hooks, first from the left lane, then as a central player in second. Shame.
Eden Hazard (5)
A rather encouraging hour of play for the star captain of the Belgians. He was voluntary, especially in the first period, coming regularly to pick up. His ball catches were excellent and he achieved exceptional control which gave Belgium the first opportunity (23rd).
Jonathan David (3,5)
We expected more from the Losc striker. He didn’t help his team enough by picking up to show off his technical quality and he quickly faded in the second half. In front of goal, he wastes a huge opportunity by forgetting Laryea on his right (31st).
Yannick Ferreira Carrasco (3,5)
Replaced at half-time and for good reason. Belgium rarely settled into the opposing camp and the Atlético winger did not have the opportunity to make a difference on his wing. In the defensive phase, when he is more used to playing piston, he was too feverish. Castagne took this corridor after returning from the locker room.
