Still winless on the road before heading to Houston on Sunday night, Golden State unlocked its away counter by winning 127-120 against the Rockets thanks to a magnificent combined performance from its two duettists Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry.
Known for being one of the best franchises on the opposing floor in recent years, Golden State had paradoxically always won an away game this season before going to the Houston floor on Sunday night. Very rare were the teams still not able to boast of having won at least one away match since the beginning of the exercise. Regarding the Warriors, who have long been part of this very closed circle, the stat is no longer relevant. Among the Rockets, the defending champions have indeed finally unlocked their counter, winning (127-120) against the Texans who nevertheless overshadowed them for three quarters. The end of the match, on the other hand, turned to the advantage of the Dub Nation, carried once again on Sunday in Houston by a Stephen Curry once again at very high altitude, with a dizzying double-double (33 points to 11 out of 20 on shots, including 7 of 14 three-pointers, 15 assists).
Return of the Artificer Thompson
But this match especially marked the great return of the “Splash Brothers” in full. Rather discreet since the start of the season (15 points on average, 35% success in shots only), Curry’s faithful friend Klay Thompson has indeed regained his superb Sunday evening. Author of 41 points, while he had never exceeded the threshold of thirty points since the recovery, the quadruple champion with Golden State, the four times alongside Curry, has done the most damage in the area he control best. Namely of course the shots from afar. Out of 13 attempts behind the line, Thompson hit the mark… 10 times. After eight defeats, the Warriors thus return to success on the move. The second victory in a row for the outgoing winners, admittedly still very far from the summits (they occupy 11th place in the West). If Thompson decides to get in tune with the performance of the other house gunner (Curry), Golden State should however very quickly compete again with the best.
