The two Los Angeles franchises lost at home this Sunday: the Lakers against Cleveland then the Clippers against Utah. Memphis and Toronto are the other winners of the evening.
Los Angeles was in celebration on Sunday, after the first MLS championship title won by the footballers of Los Angeles FC, but the basketball players quickly reduced the atmosphere. The Lakers and Clippers played back-to-back at the Crypto.com Arena, and they both lost. The Lakers, first, suffered the law of Cleveland, the second best team in the East, with a score of 100-114. The Californians, led by LeBron James (27pts, 7rbds), Anthony Davis (19pts, 12rbds) and a Russell Westbrook still off the bench but who ultimately played almost as much as the two stars (19pts, 10pds), led the whole first first half and even had a 12-point lead. But Cleveland didn’t give up and moved ahead in the third quarter for a few points, before hammering home the point in the last to take a lead of up to 17 points., facing the Lakers without a defensive solution against the two stars of Ohio. Donovan Mitchell finishes with 33 points and Darius Garland with 24, and it’s an eighth straight win for the Cavs, not seen since 2017, at the time of … LeBron James.
The Clippers crack at the end
A few hours later, and faced with 2000 spectators less, it was the Clippers who presented themselves on the floor. And after three wins in a row, they fell back into their traps by falling to Utah, still surprisingly second in the West. The Jazz won 102-110 after a very tight match (no more than ten points ahead) where each team had its period. Utah started well, then the Clippers finished strong in the first quarter, then the Jazz took control in the second and third quarters, before the Californians came back in front. At 5’35 from the end, the Clippers were still leading 96-92, before experiencing a big air hole, like these 11 missed 3-point shots in the last quarter! Utah went 9-0, with free throws a long-range shot from Malik Beasley (96-101), then Terance Mann stopped the bleeding with a dunk (98-101), before the Jazz managed a 5-0 and does not take off definitively in this meeting. Jordan Clarkson and Collin Sexton finished with 23 and 23 points, while Paul George’s 34 points weren’t enough for the Clippers. It’s time for Kawhi Leonard to come back… Also note this Sunday the victory of Memphis 103-97 against Washington with 28 points from Desmond Bane, and that of Toronto against Chicago (113-104) with 30 points and 11 assists from Fred VanVleet.
