While Bordeaux-Bègles is weakened in the third row due to injuries, Italian international Renato Giammarioli could soon land in Gironde as a medical joker.
Bordeaux-Bègles will need reinforcements in the third line. Announced as a starter this Saturday against Stade Français Paris in the opening match of the 5th day of the Top 14, Antoine Miquel had to give up due to shoulder pain and was replaced at short notice by Jean-Baptiste Lachaise. Nevertheless, the latter could only spend a handful of minutes on the lawn of the Stade Chaban-Delmas after suffering from hamstrings, with an absence that could last several weeks according to Christophe Urios. The second-line Alban Roussel then came into play to make the number. Absences which are added to that of Bastien Vergnes-Tailefer, who had to be put to rest following a cervical sprain. Faced with an increasingly refined workforce in this crucial position and in order to let Mahamadou Diaby take a little rest, the UBB staff considered recruiting a medical joker and a golden opportunity arose.
Giammarioli could not play with Worcester
This occasion is the suspension of all competitions decided by the English Rugby Federation (RFU) decided against the Worcester Warriors club. In great difficulty, the West of England outfit have recently been placed in receivership in response to a substantial debt that the leaders have not discharged. Recruited this summer by Worcester, the Italian international third line Renato Giammarioli (14 selections) was unable to evolve under his new colors due to a visa which was not granted to him by the British authorities. With no clear vision on the horizon, the 27-year-old welcomed the opportunity to join the Top 14 and Bordeaux-Bègles. An arrival in a role of medical joker whose announcement could be made at the beginning of next week according to the daily The team with the aim of allowing Christophe Urios to field the Italian next weekend on the lawn of Lyon.
