In an interview with an English media, Éric Cantona explains that he proposed to Manchester United to become president of football.

The former French international (45 caps 20 goals) explained that Ed Woodward (vice-president of Man Utd until 2022) was “great in marketing but not in football” and that the English club should “to have a president, a president of marketing and a president of football in charge of all decisions in football”.

He then approached Woodward directly to offer his services, but had to be refused. “They didn’t want me to be the president of the club! They didn’t want me! Despite the support of Sir Alex Ferguson, Cantona will therefore not occupy a role within the club in which he built his legend. However, the native of Marseille does not take this failure badly and is pleased to have tried. “I feel at peace with myself, I tried. Nobody in my family can say that I didn’t try anything to help the club. They don’t want to, it’s their choice. But I tried”he concluded on this subject.
