Beatriz Haddad Maia eliminated Karolina Pliskova at the WTA tournament in Toronto. The Brazilian climbs for the first time in the final of a Masters 1000.
The enchanted week of Beatriz Haddad Maia at the WTA tournament in Toronto could end in apotheosis this Sunday. With a brilliant career, the Brazilian will challenge the favorite, the Romanian Simona Halep in the final. The latter, seeded number 15 will however have to be wary of her competitor who has made a specialty of crunching the seeded ones. In addition to her feat in the round of 16 against the world number one, the Polish Iga Swiatek, Beatriz Haddad Maia once again thwarted the odds this Saturday in the semi-finals.

Opposed to Karolina Pliskova, the 26-year-old player mastered her subject from the outset by stealing the Czech’s serve. Then confiscating his service once again at 3-1, relying primarily on inspired service returns. She topped the first set 6-4 in 51 minutes. Thereafter we believed in a change of trend with the severe 3-0 inflicted by the seed number 14. However, at 4-5 when the Czech served to win the second set, the Brazilian released the great game to unbreak and then push the debates to the deciding game.
A first in Masters 1000
The two women were never separated by more than two points during this tie-break. However, Beatriz Haddad Maia received an unexpected boost with the double fault of his opponent on his second match point (6-4, 7-6 (7) ). The 24th player in the world thus signs a new feat opening the doors to her first final in Masters 1000. It is definitely the year of firsts for her because last June, she won her first two tournaments in two weeks on the WTA circuit on the English lawns of Nottingham then in Birmingham.
