Johann Zarco did well by winning pole position in the British MotoGP Grand Prix. At the same time, the Frenchman broke the record for the mythical circuit of Silverstone.

Fastest driver during the first free practice session, Johann Zarco (Ducati) was imitated by Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) during the second test gallop this Friday. This Saturday, on their way, the two Habs confirmed their good disposition in qualifying. Johann Zarco once again dominated the competition. He even set himself the English circuit record with a canon stopwatch of 1’57”767. He thus overtook his compatriot who had nevertheless thought of winning pole position in favor of a nice reference time of 1’58”259. The latter was even dislodged from the podium by the Spaniard Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) and the Australian Jack Miller (Ducati).

The beautiful story of these qualifications concerns Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia). Victim of a frightening fall in free practice, he lost control of his bike in a bend before being violently ejected. Fortunately, he came out unscathed and was able to get back in the saddle. He completed these qualifications in 6th position, two ranks behind the world champion Fabio Quartaro. The French still leads the world championship with 172 points, ahead of Aleix Espargaro (151 points) and the poleman of the weekend holding 114 points. The Italians Francesco Bagnaia (106 units) and Enea Bastianini follow next in the hierarchy.
