Final explanation in Rocamadour

On the eve of the finish at the Champs-Elysées, a final time trial on the far from obvious course between Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour will lock in the hierarchy in the general classification.

After three weeks of racing, it’s time for the ultimate challenge of the Tour de France 2022. For the second time since the start in Copenhagen, the survivors will have to compete in a time trial over a distance of 40.7 kilometers traced in the heart of the Lot department between Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour. For the first time since 2014, the last time trial of the Grande Boucle exceeds 40 kilometers. That year, a 54 kilometer course between Bergerac and Périgueux had seen Tony Martin win and Vincenzo Nibali confirm his hold on the yellow jersey. This time, the route chosen by the organizers of the event will consist of two distinct parts. Indeed, for a little over 32 kilometres, up to the third intermediate point located in Couzou, the roads taken will be sparse in relief.

A final that could make a difference

A playground that will allow exercise specialists to make power speak, Filippo Ganna in the lead. The Italian will start at 2:05 p.m. But, from there, the deal will change completely. After a short descent, the runners will have to climb the Côte de Magès (1.6km at 4.7% average). Finally, in the center of Rocamadour, the Côte de l’Hospitalet (1.5km at 7.8% average) will put the strongest to the test. There will then be 300 meters to go to reach the finish line. and, from the Lot, see the Champs-Elysées. While Caleb Ewan, last in the general classification, will start at 1:05 p.m., Jonas Vingegaard will close the start gate at 5:00 p.m. sharp, two minutes after Tadej Pogacar. It will then be time to take the direction of the Paris region for a last party and a final explanation between sprinters in the Capital.
