Vingegaard in yellow and polka dots

In addition to ending his duel with Tadej Pogacar with his victory at Hautacam, Jonas Vingegaard made sure to conclude this Tour de France with two distinctive jerseys.

18th stage – Lourdes-Hautacam (143.2km) – Thursday July 21, 2022

The life of jerseys

Yellow jersey: Jonas Vingegaard (DAN/Jumbo-Visma)

Jonas Vingegaard is the boss! Attacked by Tadej Pogacar in the climb of the Col de Spandelles then put under tension in the descent, the Dane was scared but knew how to stay on his wheels. Lord, he waited for his rival after his fall before blowing him up four kilometers from the finish, as he had done on the slopes of the Col du Granon. While he had to be wary of Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard put more than one option on a first Tour de France after a breathtaking duel.

Maillot vert : Wout Van Aert (BEL/Jumbo-Visma)

Even though the green jersey was assured, Wout Van Aert did not miss the opportunity to grab even more points without departing from the framework of his Jumbo-Visma team’s strategy. More than ever a master key, the Belgian did not go far from a prestigious victory at Hautacam but finally put himself at the service of his leader.

Polka dot jersey: Jonas Vingegaard (DAN / Jumbo-Visma)

Simon Geschke believed in it… But very quickly left behind at the start of the stage despite his desire to go on the attack, the German saw his polka dot jersey gradually unravel. In the end, it was a duel between Jonas Vingegaard and… Wout Van Aert that decided the future of the mountain classification. For eight points and with three units left to take by the Champs-Elysées, the Dane made sure to score a double on this Tour de France.

White jersey: Tadej Pogacar (SLO/UAE Team Emirates)

Tadej Pogacar will not be able to have any regrets. The Slovenian tried everything, from a distance, to make Jonas Vingegaard give in, but these efforts were paid dearly towards Hautacam. The white jersey will look like a consolation for the double title holder, who could only admit defeat on Thursday during the last mountain stage of this Tour de France.

Team classification: Ineos Grenadiers (GBR)

While the Jumbo-Visma team left its mark on this stage, concluded with three riders in the Top 8 (Jonas Vingegaard, Wout Van Aert and Sepp Kuss), the Ineos Grenadiers formation limited the damage with in particular Geraint Thomas and Daniel Felipe Martinez. The British team maintains a lead of more than half an hour over Groupama-FDJ and 40 minutes over Jumbo-Visma in a classification which is promised to it.

Fighter of the day: Wout Van Aert (BEL / Jumbo-Visma)

On the attack from kilometer zero, the locomotive of the breakaway before failing so little to win at Hautacam, Wout Van Aert proved once again that he is undoubtedly the most complete rider in the peloton in addition to be a dedicated teammate.
