Strazel does like Okobo

A few days after Elie Okobo, Matthew Strazel officially left ASVEL to join Monaco, which recently lost to ASVEL in the Betclic Elite finals.

Monaco is continuing its shopping near Villeurbanne! While Elie Okobo did not extend his adventure with ASVEL after being elected MVP of the Betclic Elite finals won by the Rhone club against Monaco, Matthew Strazel also decided to continue his career with the Principality . The 19-year-old leader, after three seasons in the squad led by TJ Parker, has signed for the next three seasons with Monaco, until June 2025, while he is currently playing in the jersey of the France under-20 team for the European Championship. The native of Bourg-la-Reine will thus strengthen an already rich workforce and join his former teammate at ASVEL Elie Okobo but also another recruit Jordan Loyd and Mike James, who very recently extended with the “Roca Team” for two additional seasons.

Strazel: “Continue to gain experience”

In an interview granted to the official website of his new formation, Matthew Strazel confided that he is going “towards new horizons by going to Monaco” and assures himself of setting “other objectives”. “I want to continue to gain experience, adds the one who intends to do everything to bring Monaco to the title of champion of France next season. Discovering a new team with bigger ambitions in the Euroleague, it can only forge me a little more. “While the competition will be strong under the orders of Sasa Obradovic, Matthew Strazel admits that “it’s heavy”. ” I have always been behind big leaders in my career because I have always played the Euroleague, adds the 19-year-old. Here, it’s guys like Mike James, Elie Okobo, and Jordan Loyd who are in front of me. I’m magnifying the thing, but maybe I’m talking about the three best defenders in the Euroleague. It will definitely be rewarding to work with guys like that in training. »
