The star of the US soccer team is among the sportsmen and sportswomen who expressed their anger after the US Supreme Court’s decision on the right to abortion.
If there is a high-level sportswoman who speaks regularly on social issues, with ease, it is her. So it should come as no surprise that Megan Rapinoe appeared before the American media on Friday, on a day when the country was rocked by a Supreme Court ruling making it possible to ban abortion in some states.
“I wish we could just talk about football today, but obviously with the decision on the Roe v Wade case taking precedence over everything, it’s hard to put into words, confided the winner of the Ballon d’Or 2019. It’s a sad day for me personally, for my teammates, for everyone this will affect. We know that the absence of abortion does not prevent people from having abortions. This prevents people from having safe abortions. I would encourage people to understand all the different aspects that the quashing of Roe v. Wade will have on so many people, on everyone, all over the country. I simply cannot underestimate how sad and cruel it is. I think it’s really about cruelty, because it’s in no way pro-life. »

Even though other athletes have also shouted their anger, like LeBron James, Megan Rapinoe would like even more support from men on the subject. “You have been silent towards us, on the whole, she said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Stand up, say something. She’s your wife, she’s your sister, she’s your friend, she’s your girlfriend, she’s the mother of your children. It’s all of us. And you allow a violent and constant attack on the autonomy of women’s bodies, on women’s rights, on women’s minds, on our hearts, on our souls. »
