The French women’s volleyball team qualified for the final of the European Golden League by crushing Croatia in Orleans. Les Bleues will therefore participate in the Challenger Cup at the end of July, with a ticket for the 2023 Nations League at stake.
Mission accomplished for the French women’s volleyball team! Les Bleues have qualified for the final of the European Golden League, and at the same time for the Challenger Cup. Opposed this Thursday to Croatia in front of a very hot public in Orleans, the French won 3-0 in less than an hour and a half: 25-16, 25-17, 25-13. This match between France, winner of group A (four wins) and Croatia, second in group B (three wins, one defeat), however started very badly for the Blue, led 6-1 entry. But they went an incredible 14-0 to lead 17-9. The Croats came back to -4 (18-14), but France stepped on the gas again to pocket the set by nine points. In the second, it was still Croatia who signed the best start (2-3), but the French took control from 4-3 and did not let go, even if they waited 15-1 to start creating a real gap. Identical scenario in the third set, where Croatia only led 1-2, then France had a few points lead up to 8-7, before flying away with an 11-0. Les Bleues could no longer be joined and offered themselves a magnificent victory, in the wake of a Héléna Cazaute on 11 points and an Amandha Marine Sylves on 9 points. France will face the Czech Republic on Sunday, still in Orleans.
First League of Nations for France?
And whatever happens in this final, the Blues have an appointment from July 28 to 31 near Zadar in Croatia, for the third edition of the Challenger Cup. This eight-team competition will bring together, in addition to FranceKazakhstan, Cameroon, Czech Republic, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Croatia, and the team that will finish last in the 2022 Nations League. The winner of this tournament with quarters, halves and final, will win their place for the 2023 Nations League. A competition created in 2018 in which France has never taken part.
French markers: Cazaute (11), Stojiljkovic (7), Gicquel (11), Sylves (9), Olinga-Andela (8), Rotar (9)
