Absent from the courts since 2019, the Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro, down to 747th place in the world, could make his return during the 2022 edition of the Cordoba tournament.
What if Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro finally sees the end of the tunnel? The tennis player, who has been chaining injuries and other operations for many months now, could make his comeback on the ATP circuit, during the 2022 season, and more precisely at home, in Argentina, near Cordoba. The former world number three, now 33, is down to 747th place in the world. In the hierarchy of international tennis, he is therefore only the 44th Argentinian. To see Juan Martin del Potro on a short ATP, we must already go back two years, and more precisely in 2019. At that time, the Argentinian had injured his right knee. And it was then from that moment that he had then chained the surgical operations.
Winner of the US Open 2009, del Potro had initially considered a return to the courts during this 2021 season. It would therefore only be postponed. Indeed, it was the organizers of the Cordoba tournament who thus hypothesized that he might be there, on the occasion of the 2022 edition. “It was great news that Juan Martin (del Potro) is thinking about an appearance at the Cordoba Open. We are doing our utmost to count on him, ”declared Marcelo Denti, director of the tennis event, at a press conference organized for the Buenos Aires Challenger. Traditionally, the Cordoba tournament takes place during the month of February. Only a few more weeks before knowing if the 2022 edition will take place in the presence of the idol of an entire country.
