European Championship: Ndoye Brouard, Herlem, Wattel and Duhamel in the semi-finals, Bouchaut in the final

The fifth morning of the European Swimming Championships in Budapest went well for the French delegation, with four qualifying for the semi-finals and two for the final.

The Blues shone during the morning series of the fifth day of the European Swimming Championships in Budapest! And especially on the 200m backstroke, where they are two to have qualified for the semi-finals (which will take place at 6.30 p.m. this Friday). Antoine Herlem (22 years old), quite simply signed the third French time of all time, and the third of the series, in 1’56 ″ 42. He was joined by France record holder Yohann Ndoye Brouard, seventh in 1’57 ″ 7. But it was the Briton Luke Greenbank who finished n ° 1 in these series in 1’54 ″ 67. Joris Bouchaut qualified for the 800m final, thanks to the 8th time in the heats, in 7’53 ″ 07. However, it does not work for Damien Joly, tenth in 7’54 ″ 23 and David Aubry, 35th in 8’14 ″ 25. Marc-Antoine Olivier has decided not to take the start. The final will take place on Saturday at 6:00 pm, with the Ukrainian Mykhaylo Romanchuk as the favorite, winning the series in 7’48 ″ 31.

Wattel and Duhamel in the semi-finals, the relay in the final

European 100m butterfly champion and bronze medalist in the 4x100m relay, Marie Wattel dreams of a third medal, and the soon to be 24-year-old swimmer got the job done in her morning heats by qualifying for the semi-finals of the 100m freestyle. Lille took the fourth fastest time, in 54 ″ 07, not far from the Dutchwoman Femke Heemskerk, three-time European medalist over the distance and best time in 53 ″ 84. The semi-finals will take place at 6:47 p.m. It also goes for Cyrielle Duhamel (21) in the 200m medley heats. The swimmer from Béthune finished sixth, in 2’12 ″ 35, and will therefore play the semi-finals from 19:37. The best time went to Briton Abbie Wood in 2’11 ″ 07. A little later, the French women’s 4x200m relay qualified for the final. Margaux Fabre, Océane Carnez, Lucile Tessariol and Assia Touati signed the eighth time in 8’03 ″ 36, but far from the Italians (7’59 ″ 83), who will start favorites in the final, which will take place at 19:49 at the end program. The only Frenchman entered in the 50m breaststroke series, Théo Bussière (26) will go no further, after finishing with the 28th fastest time in 27 ″ 95, one and a half seconds behind the three-time world champion in the discipline Adam Peaty ( 26 ″ 34).
